High Sugar Diet Causes Changes in Gut Bacteria Increasing Risk Of Obesity

A growing body of evidence is showing that bacteria in the gut play a big role in weight management. Recent research has now shown that the consumption of large amounts of sugar in the diet can alter the composition of the bacteria making weight gain more likely. 90% of bacteria in the gut fall into two main categories – bateroidetes and firmicutes. Firmicutes are more efficient at digesting foods that our body’s can’t digest and so important for a healthy weight.
