Apples and Nuts Reduce Inflammation

A recent study showed that soluble fibre had a significant effect on inflammation. Two groups of mice were put on a low fat diet and one group was given soluble fibre while the other group wasn’t. The mice were then injected with a microbial challenge. The soluble fibre group had 50% less symptoms than the other group and recovered 50% faster. This study suggests that soluble fibre found in foods such as apples, nuts, seeds, lentils, oat bran, barley, strawberries and apples may have an anti-inflammatory and immune regulating effect

Research highlights the importance of vitamin D

Vitamin D, used to only be linked to bone diseases such as rickets and osteoporosis, but increasingly research studies are revealing its importance in many areas of human health.

In a paper published recently in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, vitamin D’s role is identified in a number of health conditions inclluding immunity, blood sugar control, blood pressure management, heart health, muscle strength and brain activity. Adequate amounts of vitamin D are also believed to be beneficial in reducing the risk of cancer.
