Broccoli Consumption Might Reduce Arthritis Risk

Researchers are launching an exciting new study to investigate the benefits of broccoli after initial lab results showed that a compund in broccoli appears to block the enzymes that cause joint destruction. in osteoarthritis. This compound which is known as sulphoraphone is also found in other cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower and brussels sprouts. Eating these vegetables does lead to high blood levels of sulphoraphone, but it is unknown as to whether the compound can reach the joints in sufficient quantities to be effective.
